Blackberry Browser Broken – This is a WiFi Service. What?

I have a Blackberry 8320 and it freaks out every now and then. Basically because I install every new fangled app that comes down the pike. Including the betas and the alphas and the ones that should just end up in the round file. That includes the OS. Not that any of this activity is the culprit for my particular nightmare these past 2 days but with all the downloading and uploading and backing up and restoring, its not surprising to me that something crazy would jump out of the blue. That crazy thing? My Browser stopped working. I could only surf the web when I was near a WiFi connection but the moment I turned off the WiFi connection the browser was done.

Turns out it was an easy fix.

Go to Options > Advanced Options > Browser
Select Internet Browser as the Default browser configuration. It’s most likely Hotspot Browser if you’re having the same problem. Mine was.
Escape out. Save changes.
You’re done.
If it still gives you problems you can always do a battery pull restart to solidify the changes but I doubt you’ll need to.

And that’s it folks. You are back up and running on the lame ass EDGE network whenever you want. Bring on 3G PLEASE!!!!

However fear not my friends, Curve users can download the brand new Beta 2 version of the Mobile Browsing software. I have been testing Beta 2 for the past week and simply put… IT ROCKS THE KAZBAH!

Point your phone browser to mini.opera.com/beta	Click "Download Opera Mini"	Follow the simple setup steps on your phone

Optionally, you may download the Opera Mini 4 beta for Palm or Blackberry devices for a manual installation.

Instructions: How to Setup Opera Mini to Connect

If you do not follow these instructions, launching Opera Mini will simply end in an error screen. To activate Opera Mini as a Browser you must change your Blackberry’s TCP settings. Here’s how.

Go to Options > Advanced Settings > TCP
The screen will look like this
APN
Username for APN
Password for APN
Fill in the screen like this
APN wap.voicestream.com
Username for APN
Password for APN
Leave Username & Password blank
Click Menu > Save
Relaunch Opera Mini.
Surf to your hearts content.

Note: These are the settings if you are a T-Mobile customer with a Data Plan. Check for your Service Provider’s settings using the opera.com Settings Help Page

How To: Sync the Address Book – Blackberry 8XXX Model & Toyota Prius

I’m guessing you’ve got this far.
You bought the Prius, totally amped about the bluetooth feature and dreams of speakerphones and handsfree conversations began spinning in your head.
Then a call comes in and you freeze 323-854-9827… who is that? who the heck is that? I don’t know. It won’t tell me. Where’s my phone. 3 rings. God I’ve got to find my phone. 4 rings NOOOOOO!

…Voicemail.

Wouldn’t Caller ID be so helpful.

Well if you’ve bought any of the new 8xxx series Blackberry Mobile devices then you can sync your phonebook right up to your car’s address book. Awesome right?

Instructions:
1. Connect your Blackberry & Prius via Bluetooth. See Table 1.

TABLE 1
BLACKBERRY: Go to Settings > Bluetooth
BLACKBERRY: Go to Menu > Enable Bluetooth
PRIUS: Click the Call Button
PRIUS: Select Settings (bottom left button)
PRIUS: Select Bluetooth
PRIUS: Select Register
BLACKBERRY: Go to Menu > Add Device
Both BLACKBERRY & PRIUS should recognize each other and will deliver a confirmation screen if you have done it right.

2. Transfer the Phone Book (Address Book). See Table 2.

PRIUS: Click the Call Button
Select Phone Book (top left button)
Select Transfer Data
Select Whatever Group you want, your preference
If a group exists, you can choose to add to the the exisiting group or overwrite it.
The transfer will begin and can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on the size of your address book.

3. That’s it. You’re done. Now when your phone rings, the caller ID will show up on the PRIUS’ navigation screen.
